John McCain's speech to the Republican National Convention had some fine moments. Criticizing Obama for "Authoring two memoirs but no significant legislation," was a terrific rabbit punch. But McCain's "We respect what Senator Obama and his supporters have achieved but, let's make it clear, we're going to win this election" was probably the best applause line in the speech and was an almost direct lift from the beleaguered Harry Truman at the 1948 Democratic Convention when he said "We'll win this election and make those Republicans like it." Like Truman, McCain's candidacy was written off early. Truman won.
