By Roger Stone As the Regional Political Director of Ronald Reagan's 1980 campaign I made a decision to contest the delegates for Reagan in every county and Congressional District in New York State...except Nassau County.

Joe Margiotta
I knew we could not beat the formidable Nassau County Republican machine under the leadership of Joe Margiotta, then pledged to an uncommitted slate of delegates. I also knew that Reagan had been warmly received when Joe asked me to get him to headline their Lincoln Day dinner and that if Reagan won the early primaries Joe...and his delegates....would jump on board. He did and they did. Joe Margiotta was a hard driving, honest and tough minded leader who used early sophisticated polling and service to the community to build the Republican Party. Margiotta died at 83 last week.,0,7460597.story
