Supporters of Mitt Romney have organized an aggressive boiler-room campaign to push the former Massachusetts Governor for Vice President on the McCain ticket. Among those pushing Romney are Karl Rove, former Whitehouse Chief of Staff Andy Card, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and reportedly McCain campaign advisor Charles Black. The intensity of the Romney effort reminds me of the Bush boiler-room that was organized to persuade President Gerald Ford to take Ambassador George H.W. Bush for Vice President in 1974. That prize went to Nelson Rockefeller. Republican strategists continue to point to Florida Governor Charlie Crist as a V.P. pick who can guarantee a big state. No one thinks Romney could carry Massachusetts or Michigan where his father George Romney served as Governor.
