By the Balls
Billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson has given a Super-Pac supporting Newt Gingrich at least ten million dollars and probably more. Adelson signaled in the New York Times on Sunday February 4th that GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney needn’t worry. The Nevada billionaire says he will be there financially for Mitt after Romney wins the nomination. With friends like this Newt doesn’t need enemies. Romney shouldn’t count on it. This recent pledge to Romney is strange in view of the United States Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission investigation into Adelson and the Las Vegas Sands Corporation violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The Wall Street Journal has reported the investigation. The former CEO of Adelson’s casino in Macau has allegedly fingered Adelson for authorizing bribes to Chinese officials to expedite the approval of condominiums being built in conjunction with his casino in the Chinese province. In other words, Eric Holder has Sheldon Adelson by the balls. Adelson is the prime funder of the Jewish Republican Coalition, an organization that has excoriated Obama in the Jewish community. Jews are a crucial demographic in President Barack Obamas reelection strategy. The most political Justice Department in recent memory could cost the Republican effort huge sums if they decide to move against Adelson.
