The President’s planned triumphal arch in Washington is not just going to be marble and a ribbon. He has described a military and security complex — drones, sniper positions, the post-9/11 reality built into the stone. Liberals can feel free to hate the aesthetics of the Arc. But we cannot pretend the capital is a sculpture garden.
The threats have repeatedly shown themselves to be real. Now the same town that put jersey barriers around every lawn now clutches pearls at a monument designed to watch the approaches. If the drawings put rifles in a frieze, make the brief public. If they put sensors in the crown, say so. Washington D.C. already lives behind bollards. Better a monument that works than another plaza that needs a truck barrier and a committee.
The President’s visionary leadership should not be obstructed. He is calling for the Arc and the Ballroom not just because they will be beautiful and additional reasons for Americans to be proud of their country. He wants these constructions to help Washington D.C. be safe.
These are not authoritarian measures. President Trump authorized national guard troops onto the Washington D.C. streets. What resulted was not jackbooted thugs intimidating people into submission. Instead, crime dropped precipitously. The administration policies have worked so we must continue to trust them. A fortified Arc will yield national benefits on multiple levels, and we must support its construction throughout the tedious lawfare process that the Left always must subject us to.
