When a society tolerates the vilification and degradation of its political adversaries, it cultivates the conditions for violence. The relentless vituperation aimed at Musk and Trump does not exist in a vacuum. It metastasizes. It emboldens. It animates the very lunatics lurking on the periphery of our politics. The architects of these invidious narratives know precisely what they are conjuring. They are summoning the lone wolf, coaxing the unhinged, and sanctifying the next would-be assassin.
This is not conjecture. It is history repeating itself. The summer of 2020 was an orgy of left-wing violence in which Black Lives Matter and Antifa set American cities ablaze. While conservatives are hectored endlessly about tolerance, the left transmogrifies tolerance into a grotesque double standard. They do not merely excuse violence. The dehumanization of Trump supporters is not a theoretical discourse in some ivory tower. It is a blood-sport narrative with palpable consequences. Recall Congressman Steve Scalise, shot down on a baseball field by a Bernie Sanders acolyte. Recall the howling mobs that harassed conservatives out of restaurants.
