The Rigged Trial of Juan Orlando Hernández and the Case for a Pardon

Juan Orlando Hernández

Last Friday, November 28, President Donald Trump pardoned former president of Honduras Juan Orlando Hernández. The mainstream media has systematically ignored the overwhelming evidence that the charges against Hernández were politically motivated and that he endured what was essentially a Soviet-style show trial, in which he was convicted solely on the basis of testimony from convicted drug traffickers who were released from prison in return for their testimony.

President Juan Orlando Hernández was yet another victim of lawfare by the Biden DOJ.

Background Information:

  • During the trial, a federal law enforcement agent claimed that drug trafficking increased during Hernandez’s time in office when in fact it had decreased. Drug trafficking decreased because of Hernandez’s efforts in relation to Trump:

“Last month, the Manhattan judge overseeing the case rejected his motion for a retrial after his lawyers argued that the trial was tainted by incorrect testimony from a law enforcement agent who said cocaine trafficking went up in Honduras during the ex-president’s time in office.”

  • Hernandez was convicted based on “testimony from convicted criminals who were seeking revenge for Hernandez’s anti-drug policies, which included laws to seize traffickers’ assets and extradite them to the U.S.”

“It’s Mr. Hernandez who signed into law all those things that put them out of business,” Stabile said.

He said prosecutors’ cooperating witnesses were also hoping to lower their own prison sentences.

“Putting murderers and drug dealers on the witness stand who have cut deals and having them point the finger at Mr. Hernandez is not proof beyond a reasonable doubt,” Stabile said.

  • The Biden deep state cut deals with some bad hombres to set up the case against Hernandez, with cartel leaders getting set free for producing testimony against Hernandez:

Carlos ‘Negro’ Lobo: US Attorneys and DEA officials called Lobo “one of the biggest cocaine transporters in the international drug trade” at the time of his arrest with evidence showing that Lobo smuggled more than 450 kilograms of cocaine into the US. Lobo was sentenced to 20 years in prison, but he only served 10 years after he engaged in secret negotiations with the U.S. Attorney’s office at the same time that JOH was under indictment. Following his release, Lobo has been pictured living it up in Miami, lounging on the beach, drinking a beer.

Devis Leonel Rivera Maradiaga: Mariadiaga is a convicted drug lord who pleaded guilty to sanctioning 78 murders while leading a billion dollar drug trafficking syndicate, among the most powerful in Central America, called the “Cachiros” gang. Mariadiaga entered into a plea agreement that was approved by Obama-appointed SDNY attorney Preet Bharara, who was fired by President Trump in 2017. Additionally, Maradiaga was caught

Key Point: Both Lobo and Maradiaga were caught on video negotiating drug bribes with Carlos Zelaya, the former Secretary of Congress who is brothers with former President Mel Zalaya, the husband of current President Xiomara Castro. In one video, Carlos Zelaya was caught speaking about drug money that had been received by his brother, Mel. They referenced an alleged $500,000 that Mel Zelaya received in bribe money from the cartels. The traffickers agreed to put together $650,000 for Carlos Zelaya to ensure his compliance. He said “half must go to the commander” meaning his brother, with the rest of the drug money going into the coffers of the far-left LIBRE Party. Carlos Zelaya was forced to resign as Secretary of Congress when this video was released publicly.

  • President Trump praising Juan Orlando Hernandez:

“President Hernandez is working with the United States very closely. You know what’s going on on our southern border. And we’re winning after years and years of losing. We’re stopping drugs at a level that has never happened.” – Trump, Dec. 2019.

  • Obvious political motives in going after Hernandez, with Hernandez being prosecuted the day the new leftist government took over. Biden AG Merrick Garland admits they did it to “help” the leftist government consolidate power.

The indictment was filed on Jan. 27 – the day Hernandez was replaced by leftist Xiomara Castro following her November victory over Nasry Asfura, the candidate from Hernandez’s right-leaning National Party – but kept sealed until Thursday.

The U.S. Department of Justice generally refrains from indicting sitting heads of state.

“The new administration of Honduras wants our help,” Garland said. “There’s no conflict between our doing this kind of work and having good relationships in Latin America.”

  • Vice President Kamala Harris attended communist Xiomara Castro’s inauguration, showing how close she was to the Biden regime who made sure the leader of her political opposition was behind bars.

“We must uproot the corruption of the last 12 years of dictatorships,” Ms. Castro said after acknowledging Ms. Harris’s presence among the dignitaries in Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital. “We have the right to refound ourselves on citizen values and not on usury.”

After the two met hours later, Ms. Harris told reporters she was optimistic the partnership would help the administration improve conditions in the region and deter migration north.

“I was impressed with the passion with which she talked about her priority on addressing and combating corruption,” Ms. Harris said.

  • Communist regime wanted to end extradition treaty, making it impossible for drug traffickers to be sent to the U.S. and prosecuted. This is being done presumably to protect Venezuela-connected drug dealers in her own LIBRE Party leadership:

In a letter to the U.S. embassy shared on social media by Foreign Minister Enrique Reina, Honduras’ foreign ministry expressed “the decision of the Government of the Republic of Honduras to terminate the extradition treaty.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Honduran President Xiomara Castro ordered a denunciation — a unilateral withdrawal of a treaty in international law — and accused Washington of meddling in her country’s affairs.

“The interference and interventionism of the United States, as well as its intention to direct the politics of Honduras through its embassy and other representatives, is intolerable,” the leftist leader said in a post on social media.

  • Biden administration admitted that new leftist regime is colluding with known drug traffickers from Venezuela

“U.S. Ambassador to Honduras Laura Dogu had earlier told local TV reporters the United States was concerned after a meeting last week between Honduran Defense Minister Jose Manuel Zelaya and his Venezuelan counterpart, Vladimir Padrino.

Zelaya was joined by the country’s head of the military joint chiefs of staff. Dogu said she was “surprised” they met with “drug traffickers.”

The United States indicted Padrino on drug trafficking charges in 2020.

“Insinuating or implicating us as drug traffickers and disqualifying our authorities is really a direct threat to our independence and sovereignty,” Reina said on social media.

Honduras is a staunch ally of Venezuela’s socialist government.”

  • Leftist government threatens to remove U.S. military base in Honduras if Trump’s mass deportation policies are released; Sen. Mike Lee responds.

“Faced with a hostile attitude of mass expulsion of our brothers, we would have to consider a change of our cooperation policies with the United States, especially in the military realm.” – Honduran President Xiomara Castro

  • Honduras cratered under unpopular far-leftist rule, with the current regime tied to Maduro and to drug gangs, making it clear that the extradition of JOH was not about helping the people.

“The Honduran government has accused local organizations — who are tracking corruption and nepotism allegations against the Castro administration — of participating in the destabilizing coup plot due to their working relationship with the U.S. Agency for International Development. Castro has also gone after her opponents in the Honduran Congress, the Liberal and National parties, charging them with conspiring against her government by instrumentalizing electoral institutions to tilt the balance against her party.

Castro’s coup allegations came shortly after the investigative website InSight Crime published a video showing her brother-in-law and Congressman Carlos Zelaya negotiating with drug traffickers a $650,000 “donation” to her 2013 presidential campaign. The video seemed to confirm what most Hondurans had suspected since the extradition to the U.S. of former president Juan Orlando Hernandez in 2022: corruption is a central feature of Honduran politics. The scandal also struck to the heart of the Castro administration, which came to power promising a purge of the corrupt system and a “refoundation” of the country under the banners of freedom and social justice.”

Video of Castro’s brother-in-law negotiating bribes with drug traffickers:

Conclusion:

  • Juan Orlando Hernandez is the victim of the deep state. Biden administration worked with political allies in the region to persecute a strong-on-crime conservative leader in Hernandez.
  • Juan Orlando Hernandez is far tougher on drugs and on crime than his successor. The leftist government is openly conspiring with convicted drug criminals and is working to revoke the extradition treaty so drug criminals, communists, extremists and all enemies of America can have safe haven in Honduras.
  • The Pardon is About Restoring Justice for the People of Honduras. Having a political opponent of a communist regime in our prison, someone who is the former president of Honduras, is a violation of the sovereignty of their people. The U.S. under the Biden administration was doing the bidding of communist thugs during the Biden administration, and now we are setting right what once was wrong.
